Frequently Asked Questions
Are the classes suitable for beginners?
Yes! “Come as you are.” We all have to start at the very beginning, sometime. Pilates Elementals offers a non-judgmental, non-threatening environment that fosters progressive growth at any age and/or fitness level. However, as with all exercise programs, it’s a good idea to get your physician’s approval before starting a Pilates Elementals class.
The classes are jam-packed with precise cues and instructions on technical execution and modifications of the exercises. Clients/students report how easy it is to follow along in class – even with their eyes closed. You learn about and strengthen your body as you exercise through diligent practice.Pilates is intimidating. Tell me what’s different about your classes.
Granted, Pilates can be intimidating and quite challenging. Your first couple of times in class might be a bit of a struggle. Trust me, we’ve ALL been there. You’ll learn patience as you approach your early Pilates practice with slow, methodical diligence. You’ve heard the cliche, “How do I get to Carnegie Hall? Well, you practice, practice, practice, then practice some more!”
I think what sets my Pilates classes apart from other fitness classes, in general, is the precise cues and instructions regarding each exercise in the routine. Students and clients have joked I’m like “Talk Radio on Steroids”. But, that’s where the magic happens – in the cues.
Classes are not taught from the mat. I teach off the mat while I move around the studio carefully observing how each participant executes the exercises properly. I’m more interested in how you’re performing rather than being an emulated performer. As a result, one’s imagination and mental concentration are developed without visual aids in order to deepen one’s own body awareness moving in space – proprioception. My attention is focused upon you and your unique development.
I’m always ready to offer additional assistance, a touch cue adjustment, perhaps provide further modification, as needed. No two classes are ever the same. Like the human body, classes are forever changing and adapting to meet your present needs. Your fitness success is a win-win for both of us.
“Come as you are. Discover your inner powerhouse” is intriguing. What does it mean?
Whether you’re fit or out of shape, wherever you are, there you are. Perfection will always be denied. So, don’t let ‘perfectionism’ prohibit you from starting something new.
Pilates Elementals instills progressive transformation of the body-mInd-spirit. You gain physical and mental strength from the ‘inside, out’. The ‘core’ is much more than abdominal muscles.
Pilates Elementals is a continuous journey of discovering the smaller, supportive muscles that hold the human body together. Pilates Elementals goes deep into the fascia, the tissues that connect everything in the human body – the larger muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons – even organs. You’ll feel muscles you weren’t aware of before. You’ll experience your body in new ways.Do I need to reserve a spot in the class?
No, though class size is limited to about 10 students. Come early to make sure you have a spot.
